For almost half a century, Gene Roddenberry’s epic film Star Trek has thrilled audiences of both television and film. In 2009, the Star Trek franchise was rebooted with the JJ Abrams movie and audiences were immediately blown away by the stellar soundtrack that went with the movie. Trekkies now have the opportunity to have their musical movie experience magnified thanks to the upcoming San Diego Symphony Summer Pops presentation, featuring a screening of Stark Trek accompanied by a live orchestra performing the film’s soundtrack.
This event, which will take place on Saturday, January 26 at 8 p.m. at the Embarcadero Marina Park South, will feature a wide screen showing of the 2009 Star Trek movie accompanied by the San Diego Symphony performing the exciting movie soundtrack live! Guests will also be treated to a special appearance by musical composer Michael Giacchino and actor John Cho, who played the role of Sulu.
Guests are invited to come dressed as their favorite Star Trek character and prizes will be given for the best costumes. The more interesting the costume design, the better. Those interested in competing in this contest are encouraged to sign up at the grandstand tent when they arrive. The competition is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
So, for all of those science-fiction fan boys and girls who were not able to get tickets to the already sold out Comic-Con, the Star Trek 2009 movie presentation provides a way for them to get in touch with their inner geek, while at the same time enjoying live world-class music.
The San Diego Symphony’s Annual Summer Pops Concert Series takes place outdoors next to the San Diego Convention Center along the bay.
