This is not the case. While Seaport Village offers a romantic and relaxing ambiance for couples and vacationers as the sun sets, there are plenty of family activities and eateries to enjoy during the day. And, with our money saving insider’s tips, you won’t have to worry about spending your entire vacation budget in one day!
Insider’s Tips for Saving Money at Visiting Seaport Village
Pack your lunch. If you staying in one of the budget friendly Kitchen Suites at the Vagabond Inn, it is easy to pack lunch for you and your children. Bring sandwiches, chips, beverages and a blanket and have a picnic at Seaport Village. There are an abundance of grassy areas that over look the ocean and after lunch, kids can run around and play.
Dine at a more casual eatery. For families who do not have time to pack lunch, there are affordable restaurant options in Seaport Village. Some of the most affordable are Assagio Pizza Pasta Plus, the San Diego Burger Company, the Seaport Village Deli and Wetzel’s Pretzels. Expect to budget at least $8-10 per person at these dining options.
Bring a kite. No more than $10, pick up a kite on your way to Seaport Village. Flying kites is a fun activity that kids always enjoy. In addition to flying yourself, you can watch the kite shows from local kite fliers. With large and colorful kites that flip and spin, watching the kites is fun and free entertainment for the whole family.
Don’t rush past the boats and the birds. Along the water, some of San Diego’s largest boats are cruising to the nearby port. Kids often love watching the boats, and after Seaport Village you can always head to the USS Midway Museum for a closer look. The area is also home to ducks and their baby chicks, so make sure to bring your kids along the water and watch them swim along.
Ride the carousel. The Seaport Village Carousel was constructed in 1895. In addition to being beautifully crafted, the carousel is only $2 per ride. If you arrive and the line is long, don’t worry; more than 50 riders can go at a time, so it never takes too long to get through the line.
Although the weekdays are typically less crowded, there are more options for entertainment on the weekends. Each weekend, families can enjoy live music, face painters, balloon and caricature artists. Another thing to be aware of is that parking in the private lot is $8 per hour unless you spend $10 at one of the Seaport Village shops or restaurants. The validated parking is then $3 for the first two hours and $2 for every 30 minutes after. Metered street parking is available, but keep in mind that there are 2 hour maximums and an hour costs $1.25.
