Affordable Attractions near San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter

The Gaslamp Quarter is recognized for its trendy shops, premier dining and lively entertainment venues. While enjoying any of these activities is sure to provide a memorable vacation experience, the costs to participate can add up quickly. If you’re looking for a more laid-back or inexpensive experience in the Gaslamp Quarter, the budget Pacific Inn hotel by the Gaslamp offers a few favorite popular attractions that you can enjoy without having to spend your entire vacation budget.

While Horton Plaza is widely recognized as a premier outdoor mall in San Diego, it also has a unique architecture unlike any other. The mall is painted in bright colors and has a variety of ramps, turning staircases and more to explore and enjoy. Additionally, there are a variety of inexpensive restaurants, where you can sit back and relax and take in the San Diego sunshine. For visitors concerned about cost, parking is charged per hour in the Horton Plaza parking lot unless you make a minimum purchase of $10 at one of the mall’s stores. Then, your parking will be validated for the first 3 hours of your trip.

A couple blocks west of the Gaslamp Quarter is Seaport Village. Seaport Village is a small waterfront complex that is home to a variety of quaint shops and restaurants. With sprawling views of the bay, many visitors come to sit along the water and watch the boats go by. The area is also often filled with individuals flying large kites, something that kids always enjoy watching. There are a few full-service restaurants located at Seaport Village, but if you’re on a tight budget, consider going to the deli or one of the smaller dining establishments and enjoy a picnic on the bay.

Another neighborhood that you can explore is the historic Little Italy San Diego. There are a variety of art galleries and museums in which you can spend your afternoon visiting. For a true look into Little Italy’s history, be sure to check out the firehouse museum. Admission is only a few dollars and visitors can look at historic firefighting gear and memorabilia. After, stroll through one of the many outdoor parks in Little Italy or stop for a cappuccino at one of the local cafés.

The Gaslamp Quarter may be San Diego’s best dining and nightlife area, but there are many other inexpensive sights and activities to enjoy a short walk away!
