Children Love the Balboa Park Playgrounds
Balboa Park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States and attracts those who love history, culture and art. However, in addition to the amazing museums and fantastic restaurants, there is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. Bird Park at Cedar
Location: 28th St. and Cedar St.
Perfect for toddlers and younger visitors, the playground has a soft, cushioned floor in certain areas for a safe landing for those who may not be too comfortable with walking. There is also an area with sand, as well as slides that accompany the climbing jungle gym. There are also other toys to climb on and play with.
Bird Park at Upas
Location: 28th St. and Upas St.
Bird Park has one slide that lets out to a soft rubber floor. Two safety swings and other small toys are available, making it a great spot for toddlers. Not too far are benches and the park is surrounded by grass so there is plenty of room to spread out and continue playing.
Morley Field Playground
Location: Northeast side of the Morley Field Sports Complex
There are two safety swings as well as two standard swings, monkey bars and a jungle gym. The Morley Field playground is also great for climbers with many obstacles and features to play on. The playground is geared toward older children so be prepared for it to be a bit more crowded than some of the others.
Pepper Grove Playground
Location: Park Boulevard, just south of the Science Center
Pepper Grove is a popular playground as it has two areas, separated for older and younger kids. Younger children can play on cushioned floors with slides, swings and a sandbox. The side for older kids has a jungle gym and spinning toys to play on. Sixth Avenue Playground
Location: 6th St. and Spruce St.
the Sixth Avenue Park is also carefully split into two sections. While both sides have a variety of toys and obstacles to climb on and through, the younger side also a jungle gym that is easy to navigate. The parks location makes it great for those who are visiting Balboa Park from another part of the downtown district.
