Free Organ Concerts at San Diego’s Balboa Park
Balboa Park in downtown San Diego is one of the most popular and historic parks in the world for its lively arts and culture, as well as the beautiful landscapes that it offers to its visitors. For those looking to enjoy events in the city, organ concerts are held every Sunday at 3pm, providing a one-of-a-kind concert that is available to visitors at no cost. Held in the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, the outdoor performance includes 4,530 different pipes which vary in size between 32 feet to the size of a pencil, creating a beautifully distinct sound which can only be experienced at the Pavilion.
About the Concert
Dr. Carol Williams is the talented civic organist who performs the concerts. Williams has worked as the Civic Organist and Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society since 2001 and continues to inspire residents and visitors with her enchanting music. In addition to the talent of Williams, the Organ Pavilion was designed to make the main stage the star of the show. Seating revolves around the pipes, ensuring that the sounds can be heard from every seat in the house.
Schedules are passed out before the organ concert begins for the song itinerary and attendees are encouraged to participate! Refreshments are also available within close proximity of the stage, making it easy to bring a few chairs and blankets for a great time spent outdoors listening to hymnals. A gift shop is also available to support the free concerts and to purchase clothing items, bags, and even recorded cassette tapes of the performances.
